It is with deepest regret that we announce that Options Community Services has lost a member of our Board of Directors, a dear friend and wonderful human being, Kevin Kilgour.
A natural people-person, Kevin had the innate ability to build relationships with those around him and always took the time to connect with everyone he encountered. When meetings moved to a virtual platform, he would acknowledge each individual as they appeared on screen, usually holding one of his dogs as he did his check-in.
As Tax Partner at Johnsen Archer LLP, a Chartered Professional Accountancy firm, and in the business for over 20 years, it goes without saying that he was skilled at finances. Not only did Kevin’s expertise include taxation, financial reporting, mergers and acquisitions, he had a special talent in making financial presentations interesting and engaging.
He was never afraid to express his thoughts but equally respected the views of others. A strong believer that providing coaching allows others to expand their knowledge and experience organically, Kevin was always ready to answer questions and in fact, welcomed them. He had an inherent ability to take the most challenging scenario, break it down, and concisely provide a practical solution.
Kevin was a long-standing member of our Board of Directors for nearly 16 years. He supported our evolution pre-merger as Treasurer of Surrey Community Services and continued post-merger with Options Community Services, for over a decade. Ever generous, he gave his time, expertise and financial resources to support the work of Options Community Services. He was proud to be part of Options and amazed by the work that our staff do. Kevin will be sorely missed.
Here we share Kevin’s profile submission, which was to be featured in May
"I am born and raised in Surrey/North Delta and have lived in Surrey most of my life. I am a Chartered Professional Accountant and a partner in a mid-sized accounting firm in Surrey called Johnsen Archer. My passion for my entire career has been Canadian tax and that is my specialty.
I have an amazing wife named Vineeta and two wonderful children, Angelie and Nikhil.
Outside of work my passions are golf, football and hockey. I love to work with kids, and am passionate about coaching youth football.
I have been on the Board since January 2005, so coming up on 16 years. When I first joined the Board, it was primarily because my employer at the time (PwC) encouraged its managers and partners to make community involvement an important part of their lives. I had always been interested in that, but the encouragement from PwC spurred me on to look for opportunities. My personal banker at the time was a Director at Surrey Community Services Society and he offered to introduce me to the Board as a potential replacement for him in his role as Treasurer. I took him up on his offer, joined the Board, and immediately knew that I made a great decision. Since then I have grown as a Director and continue to be rewarded in many different ways for my involvement with OCS."
