SAFE Programs

South Asian Family Strengthening Team (SAFST)

Supported by the Government of Canada in partnership with the City of Surrey.

SAFST is one of the Surrey Anti-Gang Family Empowerment (SAFE) programs funded by the National Crime Prevention Strategy.

The program focuses on immigrant and refugee families, primarily in the Newton area. Culturally competent counsellors with a knowledge of immigrant backgrounds, support parents and their families with at-risk and/or gang-involved youth.

SAFST is an outreach program; meeting families in preferred locations, including home visits. SAFST is a member of the Children and Youth At Risk Table (CHART).

This service is designed to help South Asian families; primarily from the Newton area, who feel their child or youth is exhibiting negative behaviours and may be at risk of gang involvement.

High Risk Youth Justice

Supported by the Government of Canada in partnership with the City of Surrey.

The High Risk Youth Justice Program is one of the Surrey Anti-Gang Family Empowerment (SAFE) programs funded by the National Crime Prevention Strategy.

This program brings together community agencies at the Children and Youth At Risk Table (CHART) to deliver life skills training for children and youth - in and out of school time, including evenings.

The High Risk Youth Justice Program offers one-to-one support; such as, pro-social activities, health, employment and education. The focus is primarily on children and youth in Newton with gang affiliation or a family history of gang involvement. The program also supports parents with services in Punjabi. 

This service is designed to help children and youth in Newton with gang connections or a family history of gang involvement.

Location

This program is delivered in and out of school time (including evenings), at multiple locations.
